I am interested in downloading either the FIRST data directly or the TBA data indirectly into MS Excel. We have done this in the past using data connections and http (downloading webpages and parsing). This year, the websites have been tremendously unreliable. Does anybody know and can give me advice on how to get event team lists, event team rankings and event match scores directly into MS Excel?

Thanks,
Bill

There is an archive of csv formatted data dumps on GitHub here: https://github.com/the-blue-alliance/the-blue-alliance-data

It's not quite up to date yet for 2015, but Eugene can manually fire a backup off.

Speaking of which, it would be cool to get that process automated nightly and have the TBA server auto-submit pull requests or something for each day's data

I am looking to pull the data every three minutes or so during the qualifications and eliminations matches.

Have you looked at our API? http://www.thebluealliance.com/apidocs

The issue is possibly more fundamental than that. I have not used an API to get information into MS Excel. In fact, I have not used an AIP ever. I'd like to look into making the API work, but I need a bit of a primer on how you can use an API to get data into MS Excel.

If you do a web search on APIs and MS Excel, you get tons of information on Excel APIs and Microsoft Office data interchange. I cannot find a good reference on how to get external data from the internet into MS Excel.

I'll look at your information and see what I can learn.

Thanks,
Bill

From some quick googling, I found this tool that looks promising: https://github.com/ronle/JsonToExcel

It's a VBA script that claims to take JSON data (what our API returns) and convert it into CSV. Maybe give that a try?

Phil,

Just a heads up that we are now using the TBA API to gather information for the FRC game announcers and MCs. For the next week, you will see primarily me using the API to test it. Once it has been tested out (at MDBLR), I'll make it available for other game announcers possibly next week.

Thanks for making this information available.

Bill
