The main reason that PyLucene's JCC is using setuptools is that it can build shared libraries properly for various platforms. Will it be possible to move off setuptools and onto distutils2/packaging when it's released? That is, will distutils2/packaging know how to build share libraries?

Hi,
This would be useful, please open a feature request on bugs.python.org.
Currently d2 has no support for shared libraries, only “C/C++ libraries”—not sure if they’re static or something else.
