When will TestNG 7.0.0 release?

We are looking forward TestNG 7.0.0 released, which includes lots of bug fix and new features. 

 

May I know when TestNG 7.0.0 will be released. Any plan could be shared here?

We're on an older version and want to upgrade but 6.X versions seem to have shifting behaviors between versions, so 7.0.0 will be a good baseline to aim for.

It would be great if there will be a 7.0.0 beta version published beforehand (maybe there is?), so people can test it out in their environments to catch any weird bugs.

We already publish the SNAPSHOT versions to Maven Central.

 

So can you please quickly try using TestNG 7.0.0-SNAPSHOT and report back if you see any discrepancies ?

There are a few outstanding PRs that need to be merged before we can start publishing BETA versions. That is why we are asking to try using 7.0.0-SNAPSHOT for now.

 

Can you please let us know why is it that you cannot depend on a SNAPSHOT version?

There is no different repository.

TestNG is publishing to the standard SNAPSHOT repository only:

https://oss.sonatype.org/content/repositories/snapshots/org/testng/testng/7.0.0-SNAPSHOT/

You perhaps may have to add a <repository> tag to the ~/.m2/settings.xml which points to the snapshot URL and then try resolving the artifact.

I think that's where the confusion lies.  You said that you publish the snapshot to Maven Central " We already publish the SNAPSHOT versions to Maven Central. "  However, it's not on maven central, it's on the snapshot repository.

So when somebody says they pushed a snapshot to Maven Central, they really mean to the Maven Central snapshot repo.

Do we know if it will have https://github.com/cbeust/testng/pull/1936? I am using 7.0.0-SNAPSHOT, and I still see the "did not expect to find" when it should have said "expected to find" in the soft assertion failures.

Here is an example assertion:

a.assertTrue(false);

Here is the (incorrect) error:

java.lang.AssertionError: The following asserts failed: did not expect to find [true] but found [false]

This may prevent us from using 7 and we may need to wait until it gets fixed. So, just something to consider.
