In case you have struggled with compiling tesseract training tools 3.0.5
with Visual Studio 2015, you can use the projects from
https://github.com/mazoea/te-external
The target audience is primarily developers who know a thing or two about building and can reuse this stack to build other projects e.g., leptonica and tesseract including the training tools.
Have in mind that if you do not know how to use it, it is not meant for you.
