Publication work will be much easier if Adobe Pagemaker supports unicode. At present, the already typed unicode text has to be retyped using non-unicode fonts and that also with much difficulty, because many characters cannot be typed directly, but only using Alt+4 digit codes.

मेरा विचार है कि सबसे पहले देखना चाहिये कि आपका काम मुफ्त / मुक्तस्रोत सॉफ्टवेयर से हो सकता है या नहीं।  ऐसे विकल्प न हों तो ही  एडॉबी पेजमेकर या एडोबी इनडिजाइन का प्रयोग करना चाहिये।  वैसे भी एडॉबी पेजमेकर का सबसे नया संस्करण सन २०००  के आसपास आया था।  तेजी से बदलते संसार में इतना पुराना सॉफ्ट्वेयर क्यों प्रयोग करें?  वो भी तरह-तरह की समस्याओं के साथ?

I tried the latest version of scribus 1.5.3-svn - it still has problems with devanagari rendering.

Inkscape 0.91 worked fine with unicode devanagari fonts. However it may not be suitable for multi page documents.

स्क्राबस की यह कमी बहुत दिनों से है और अभी तक इसका समाधान नहीं निकाला जा सका।  आशा करें कि आगे इसका समाधान होगा। किन्तु वर्तमान में क्या? 

डेस्कटॉप पब्लिशिंग के मुद्दों की मुझे कोई जानकारी नहीं है। किन्तु  नेट पर खोजने पर मुझे आश्चर्यजनक आनन्द आया कि लोग लिब्रऑफिस के 'ड्रा'  की बहुत प्रशंशा कर रहे हैं और उसे एक ठीक-ठाक  डेस्कटॉप पब्लिशर बता रहे हैं।  लोगों को देखना चाहिये कि कौन सा ऐसा काम है जो वे करना चाहते हैं (या उन्हें करना पड़ता है) और इसमें नहीं हो  सकता।

Actually, it looks like LibreOffice Writer maybe a better option for DTP

श्री देवी कुमार जी,

Scribus में Unicoded Indic Scripts की rendering की समस्या का समाधान करने के लिए मैं TDIL-DC की पिछली PRSG मीटिंग में मुद्दा उठाया था। अनेक बार ईमेल से अनुस्मारक भी दिए। 

IndLinux group के प्रोग्रामर शायद मदद कर सकते हैं। यदि उनसे संपर्क हो सके तो प्रयास करें।

Redhat के Indic programer भी इस समस्या का समाधान कर सकते हैं। मेरे विचार में शायद pango जैसे रेण्डरिंग इंजिन के कोड के साथ compile कर देने से समस्या का समाधान हो सकता है।
