Do they shut down while in use, or is it after a hibernation or lid close ?

We have a bunch of Toshiba Tela Z40 laptops - standard image, which have suddenly started freezing. Can only be shut down by holding power button down. This is at 2 schools. No useful info in event viewer. Anyone got any ideas or also having this problem?Thanks in advance.Jude
