Apple Ipad Adapter Recall

Good afternoon

I have the responsibility of documenting the electrical testing required
by the MOE for my school.

I understand Apple have recalled power adapters for Ipads and other
handheld devices in NZ.

How would we know if the power adapters for any Ipads the school owns
have been replaced by Apple. Does the replacement adapter look different
from the one shown in the recall photo?

It is the plug rather than the adapter that needs to be replaced. The bad ones have a number inside the slot, the good ones have a country code.

The recalled duck heads are also fully round while the replacements are a rounded corner rectangle.

Do people get the replacement first or does Apple make them go without a
charger while it sends out the replacement?

Talk to your apple reseller. Often they will have a stock of these. Otherwise the long cables from MacBook adapters are the same fitting if you have any spares.

Definitely talk to your ASP, they may be able to do a bulk exchange of them and if you know them well some might offer a swap with prior arrangement. They have a very small time frame to return the recalled items to Apple so don't expect to be able to courier them after they've sent the replacements to you. As Keith also mentioned, every laptop adapter ships with a duckhead and cable so you shouldn't have issues charging laptops. iOS is a different story, but the long cables will also fit the USB adapter as well.
