As future teachers to be, we will be required to integrate HIV/AIDS in
our lessons. Here are some ways of providing guidance to learners: But
first, you as a teacher must:

- Believe that HiV and Aids exists
- Be willing to promote teaching about HIV / AIDS
- Be knowledgeable about the topic
- Be comfortable with their own sexuality.
- Feel comfortable in teaching about HIV and AIDS and related topics.
- Relate effectively ( with honesty, warmth and sensitivity) to
learners
- Be open-minded and non-judgmental with respect to values,
attitudes, beliefs and practices, which may be different from their own.
- show willingness to learn and not resist new information and
teaching methods.
- Respect students, parents, fellow teachers and the community members
at large.

Providing HIV/AIDS information and support to learners should not only
be done during AIDS awareness week or be taught in subjects like Life
Science or Biology - the topic should be integrated in all subjects
and teachers be on the lookout for myths learners believe in and give
them the correct information. In Maths e.g statistics could be a topic
appropriate for this.
