Stop Screen Coming On When Text Received?

When I receive a text the screen comes on. This means that if I get a text when I'm using handsfree with the phone in my pocket all kinds of crazy things happen! Is there some way I can use Tasker to work around this?

I thought I could stop the screen waking if the proximity sensor is covered, but I can't find an option for that.
I can't set the screen timeout to less than 7 seconds.
I tried putting a blank scene over the whole screen (with an easy swipe-to-close built in) when a text comes in but it takes too long for the scene to show. When on the home screen it seems to cause Tasker to restart, so that's really no good!

Any other ideas?

On this one you could try showing the scene when the display goes off then destroy when display comes on and you did not just get a text message, However I think I have tried something similar in the past as was not happy with how long it took to destroy when display came on . The system is just to busy when display comes on.

I tried your first suggestion, but it didn't work :-(

I'll have to try your second suggestion later.

Could you give details on why it did not work?

Not really. The Run Log says it's doing it, but it isn't happening. I tried setting it so when a text is received and the proximity sensor senses proximity it does System Lock. I put a text flash immediately after the System Lock. The screen stays on, the message flashes.

I think the best option so far is to just have the screen turn off whenever a text comes in, whether I'm using the phone or not.

Did you try just running the task from the task tab with the play button to see if the system lock action works on your device?

It could be a timing issue (IE- the system lock happens before the text app has a chance to turn on the screen) which a small wait would fix.

Maybe it is a timing thing. Whenever I test it it seems to work, but I"m not convinced it's reliable. I'll put a small wait in and see what that does.

So far, a half second wait seems to make it reliable. Thank you!
