I am making this a new thread because the Beta discussions are already getting quite lengthy and occasionally off topic.

I made a screen recording that demonstrates how the 4.9x version allowed full color icons in the notifications created by Tasker.  https://youtu.be/q2LEeuzWAx0

And another immediately after updating to 5.0b5m that shows the same task but the icon is in all white.  You can see when I open the task to edit that the icon should be full color.  https://youtu.be/umb67SRnKwE

Sorry for the fast pace.  If you pause on my "about device" screens, you will see that it is the same device, same ROM, and only a few minutes apart.  I also open Tasker's info to show version, which should be obvious with the Material design.

No problem with you making a new thread, though I'm aware of the issue and have
been thinking about it vaguely.

Will get back to you.

Not a high priority.  Most people are preferring the flat look lately anyway.  Wonder if anyone is even using those Misc icons anymore anyway.  If they aren't popular, they could be removed in the interest of lightening the app?

It's stipulated in the Android docs that notification icons should be plain white.

Probably not, but they weigh virtually nothing :-)

I have a poll going in the G+ for Tasker and it shows that there are still those who prefer/use the full color icons.

I've been experimenting and my conclusion is that this is ROM behaviour, on newer
ROMs (probably 7.1+), forcing compliance with the Android requirements of
white icon.

I tried it with the current beta on a 7.1.2 device and got the same results as you.

I then dropped the target API in the app Manifest back to 14 (it's 21 for the beta in order
to make MD support less work) and the colour icons came back.

There's nothing in the Tasker code which looks at it's target API version.

In sum: seems 7.1+ ROMs enforce white icons for apps with target API version 21+.

Correction: there are apparently also some 7.0 ROMs with this behaviour, though
my S7 doesn't have it.

My videos show that I am on the same ROM on the same device.  The icons were in full color on the 4.9x Tasker, but when I went to the 5.0bx they forced to white.  Same ROM, only change was the Tasker version.

This not a big deal for me, I have already moved on.  My poll in the G+ has shown about a 4:1 ratio of users preferring the flat ones.  Only about 20% of poll participants are using the full color icons.  Sample pool is currently about 93 users.

Yes, that fits with what I wrote. More recent ROMs adjust their behaviour
in this respect based on the API level that the app is targetting. 4.9
targets 14, 5.0 targets 21.

I see what you are saying now (as an end user but not as a Dev).

In brief, Tasker is not doing anything different, the ROM is deciding to
show the notifications as white based on a particular aspect of the app
which has changed in order to make Material Design support easier.
