%SILENT neq off does not work

I have a profile to play a ringtone alert at 10 AM each day. I want it to not play the alert when I turn the phone to silent mode. So I set up the ringtone play task to play only if %SILENT neq off. But the sound plays anyway. I have tried several different settings, but cannot get this to work. What am I missing?

I figured it out. Use ~ not eq/neq. This works:

if %SILENT ~ off

Then if sound on the phone is turned off, the task is not executed, but it is if sound is on.
