I am building a dice game and would like to include functionality to play with friends remotely. Would need to send a 5-digit number to the app on another device for processing. App is still in development so not even ready to perform tests, just formulating a plan of attack.

Would rather avoid having to send the data via text message, if it can be avoided.

Does anyone know how (or if) I could use AutoRemote to achieve this? If not, is there a different plugin that would do this?

If not, does anyone have recommendations on how I might accomplish this? I looked into send/receive intents but I get the impression they are only used on the local device.

Many thanks in advance!

You can easily do this with AutoRemote if I'm understanding it right. :)

Check here for more info: http://joaoapps.com/autoremote/

Hope this helps

Thanks Joao! Great work by the way! I use Tasker apps and plugins more than any other apps. :)

OK I read through all the docs on the page you sent, watched all the videos, etc. I think AutoRemote will do what I need, but am unsure how to programmatically register other devices with AutoRemote.

For example, in the game I'm building, I want to be able to send an invitation to my contacts to join. Then if they accept the invitation, AutoRemote will connect our devices and I can pass data or text between them using AR. It's how to connect the devices that's the issue. I figure the invitation could be an SMS or email since I couldn't SMS a tablet, for example.

It's the background processing I'm not familiar with. I can query %arownkey but not sure how to interpret it when it arrives at the receiving end. Thought about sending the URL from my AutoRemote but it doesn't look like I can query that so not sure how to get it.

Is it even possible to add a device to AR without being in the same room and scanning a QR code?

Any guidance would be most appreciated! Even a point in the right direction would be very helpful. Right now it feels like a chicken/egg problem. :)

Hi again.

Unfortunately automating registration is currently not possible, sorry.
I was thinking I could implement the nearby API to enable local discovery so devices could then easily add each other.
Thanks for your input, I'll try figuring it out!
