I have a hard time to have Tasker keep the screen on and prevent locking while connected with USB and/or AC.

It used to work fine in previous versions of Android, but seems to have issues with 4.1.1 (Galaxy S3).
Is this problem known? and is there eventually a workaround?

I have tried with the "Stay On"... seems not to work.
I have tried Secure Settings "Keep Display On: AC, USB" ... seems not to work either.
I can set the display timeout to 2h in the task and the android settings would show 34 minutes, 7 seconds. %DTOUT would show 7200 at the same time.

So I get about 34 minutes on display on, then it switches off and the S3 is locked.

Is there a working workaround or a working profile I could look at?

Here is mine (with some debugging going on)

Profile: D Power (28)
State: Power [ Source:Any ]
Enter: D Power.Enter (34)
A1: Variable Set [ Name:%Cntr To:1 Do Maths:Off Append:Off ]
A2: Variable Set [ Name:%Scrdim To:1 Do Maths:Off Append:Off ]
A3: Auto Brightness [ Set:Off ]
A4: Display Brightness [ Level:255 Disable Safeguard:Off Ignore Current Level:Off Immediate Effect:On ]
A5: Display Timeout [ Secs:0 Mins:0 Hours:2 ]
A6: Stay On X  [ Mode:With AC or USB Power ]
A7: Secure Settings [ Configuration:Keep Display On: AC, USB Package:com.intangibleobject.securesettings.plugin Name:Secure Settings ]
A8: Wait [ MS:0 Seconds:10 Minutes:0 Hours:0 Days:0 ]

Exit: D Power.Exit (64)
A1: Display Timeout [ Secs:0 Mins:3 Hours:0 ]
A2: Variable Clear [ Name:%Scrdim Pattern Matching:Off ]
A3: Variable Clear [ Name:%Scrout Pattern Matching:Off ]
A4: Display Brightness [ Level:130 Disable Safeguard:Off Ignore Current Level:Off Immediate Effect:On ]
A5: Auto Brightness [ Set:On ]
A6: Stay On [ Mode:Never ]

thanks for any pointer

What is Stay On X? Typo?

I have a very simple profile for this very purpose on my SGS3 on 4.1.1 also. It works fine. I have two contexts, Power any and a time range, because I don't want it on while I am trying to sleep. Then I only have the Stay On action in my enter task and my exit task, nothing else. My phone is completely stock, but I do have root, if that is relevant.

Profile: On Power (2)
State: Power [ Source:Any ]
Time: From 07:00 Till 23:25
Enter: On Power Enter (3)
A1: Stay On [ Mode:With AC or USB Power ]

Exit: On Power Exit (64)
A1: Stay On [ Mode:Never ]

Stay On X
means that this Stay On action is disabled...

yeah, I started out with this simple profile as well. but then it stopped working..

Scott, how did you make it work?

I (re)created that same simple profile (which I started from too, a couple of months ago):

Profile: D.On.Power (104)
State: Power [ Source:Any ]
Enter: D.On.Power.Enter (105)
A1: Stay On [ Mode:With AC or USB Power ]

Exit: D.On.Power.Exit (106)

A1: Stay On [ Mode:Never ]

yet, it won't work. display timeout is set on 3 minutes in the android setting. so, after 3 minutes the display dimms and soon after it switches off. and a couple of minutes later the screen locks.

as it seems, Stay On does not work for my phone (GT-I9300, 4.1.1, I9300XXDLID, JRO03C.I9300XXDLIH).

I believe I once read that Stay On won't work on 4.x anymore. So I am wondering how you made it work. would you share with me?

thanks

I wish I had an answer for you. I did nothing special. I imported the profile from an older phone when I upgraded, and it's been working the whole time.

Perhaps there is something fundamentally different in our phones. Mine is from Verizon.

Stupid spell check. That should have been JRO03L.I535VRBLK3

I found a remark from Pent on https://groups.google.com/d/msg/tasker/Y5WfcTCytdE/Qxl96uNZ0sAJ. You mentioned in the same thread that it worked for you.

Stay On should work for me, as I run 4.1.1 and my phone is rooted too. Hmm...
In the same thread they talk about the Secure Settings version of Stay On.. As mentioned above, I tried that too and it did not work as well...
I also tried the display timeout... no go..

I now remember that that thread was the trigger for my rather complicated profile on the beginning of this thread.
