Hi all,

I agree with Kai that it's more a matter of encouraging people to use it. And same goes with the other stuff that we already have. need to get used of using the Google calendar myself.

Greg: concerning the computer setup, could we use the OLinuXino board?

Cheers,
石恩

p.s
I'm moving the thread to the main list so more people can see.

Hi all,

I think this is a very interesting topic and I'm happy that people think it's important, 'cause I do, and I could say lots about it, but... I don't have the time now :D

I also think it's a good idea to move this discussion to the main list.

So I put an edited version of the discussion so far here:

(I know, it's not the new wiki, sorry, but it was slow, another topic for discussion haha)

And so if no one objects, maybe we can continue the discussion on the main list, referencing the current discussion with the link.

I'll just say now that:

1. Greg's checkin system was pretty ok. Not perfect, sure, but I found it was not that much trouble to use. It's more a matter of encouraging people to use it. Just to point out that the problem was not primarily technical (like too far from the door or whatever), it could also be solved with adjusting people, not technology :) If everyone agrees on a method we don't need to do extra technical work, though of course technical improvements are welcome.

2. Right now, since the server-and-checkin system died, there is a workaround that Yusuke and I have been using: updating the Google calendar, which then instantly appears on the main web site page https://taipeihack.org/#open

3. There have been other workarounds and attempts, which I'll be happy to mention if there is interest :D

4. I'm always up for a get-together to discuss as typing is tiring :D

Hi Devry,

Not sure what do you mean by you were the one who moved the computer setup. I was referring to the fact that the previous ARM server's SD card has died and took the setup with it. Now the server is a RaspberryPi using FreeBSD (for various reasons, some makes sense, some doesn't), and I couldn't make a number of software work with it that the existing setup needs (in particular Node.js). It's our wiki hosting device, and running a web server. There's also another Linux device that might be better for this role (would work for sure), but the multi-board setup needs some thinking. (sorry if all does not make much sense at the moment).

Regarding telling more about it, the whole project is documented together with hardware and code: https://gergely.imreh.net/blog/2013/07/electronic-check-in-at-the-taipei-hackerspace/ Hope this helps, and of course I can tell more (after re-reading my own blog:)

Also, I think this whole conversation belongs to the general mailing list, not the (quasi-private) keyholder list, so wouldn't mind (actually prefer) to move it to there.

Cheers,
    Greg

Hi all,

I would like to help as well. I was the one who moved the computer setup. I like the idea of having the reader closer to the door. In addition, I think removing the need to press the in or out button for the card reading system would be great. If Greg can tell me more about the reader I can make another one if needed and arrange it like those unmanned train station.

Should we get together some times to see how things should be laid out?

Hi all,

張權峰 and I was discussing the keyholder guidelines, and then we thought that concerning yhe last point, considering the large audience of our Facebook fanpage and group, would it be a nice idea if we also our presence there and sticky the post. what do you people think?

張權峰和我討論keyholder準則的最後一條的時候覺得,我們不如也在FB專業和社團發佈消息,讓更大的群眾可以得到即時資訊,你們覺得呢?

(It would be even greater if we can get Greg's login system back online and connected to the website and google group and facebook) 如果Greg的登入系統能恢復並和網站以及google群組和facebook連結那就更好了

Cheers,
石恩
