Ken Ford - On Computational Wings: The Prospects & Putative Perils of AI

Video of Ken Ford’s lecture on AI now available

After decades of pundits and philosophers arguing that artificial intelligence was impossible, suddenly that argument has been replaced with the assertion that not only is artificial intelligence possible, but that it is inevitable and apocalyptically dangerous. Elon Musk told a meeting of governors that they should adopt AI legislation before robots “start going down the street killing people.” Musk has also tweeted that AI going rouge was more of a risk than North Korea.

Ken doesn’t see it that way.

In January, Ken gave evening lectures in Ocala and Pensacola that offered an alternative and more positive view of AI’s future. The link will take you to Ken’s Pensacola lecture.

In the lecture, Ken explains why he thinks it’s more appropriate to refer to AI as amplified intelligence rather than artificial intelligence. And he also puts the debate on AI into historical context and compares the controversy to another technology that was thought to be an apocalyptic danger to the human race: artificial flight.
