It’s Computer Science Education Week! Help us teach digital and 21st Century skills like problem-solving and collaboration to learners everywhere.

Featured Activity
Partnering for Youth
Computer science underlies most innovation today, from biotechnology to cinematography to national security, and teaches students design, computational thinking, and problem solving. Web literacy skills are fundamental to computer science education.

One organization putting these skills into practice is Mouse (https://mouse.org/), a national youth development nonprofit that empowers students to create with technology to solve real problems and make meaningful change in our world. Mouse is also a member of Mozilla Hive NYC (http://hivenyc.org/ ).

This collection of Mouse’s teaching activities explores everything from HTML/CSS to search engine optimization, from passwords to javascript, from online identities to advertising, touching on all major web literacy skills (https://learning.mozilla.org/en-US/web-literacy ).

Announcements
- December 5-11 is Computer Science Education week (https://csedweek.org/), and also marks Code.org’s annual Hour of Code (https://code.org/learn) campaign, which has engaged 10% of all students in the world with computer science curriculum. Participate with us by remixing the Thimble Homework Excuse Generator (https://d157rqmxrxj6ey.cloudfront.net/mozillalearning/11701/ ), a featured activity for #hourofcode (https://twitter.com/search?q=%23hourofcode&src=typd).

- Will you be in New York City between now and December 14? If so, stop by
The Glass Room: Looking Into Your Online Life (https://theglassroomnyc.org/ ), a storefront intervention that examines the dynamics of our digital culture. The exhibit challenges assumptions about how we consume technology and encourages informed choices about our privacy and online habits.

- In partnership with Mozilla, St. Anne's-Belfield School (http://www.stab.org/ ) will host its 2nd annual SPARK high school hackathon (http://spark.stab.org/), free for students, on Jan. 28-29 in Charlottesville, VA. SPARK organizers are seeking local community mentors, as well as national partners and sponsors to participate in learning and making throughout the weekend. Learn more or get involved here (http://spark.stab.org ). Student applications are due December 16.

Community Spotlight
Mozilla's partnerships and community connections bring the fabric of our work together through five key issues designed to support the health of the internet: privacy and security, open innovation, decentralization, web literacy and digital inclusion. Every month we feature one inspirational organization or individual doing work at the intersection of these issues. For December and in honor of Computer Science Education Week, we are proud to spotlight Hive NYC (http://hivenyc.org/) member Eyebeam (https://eyebeam.org/), which merges arts and technology to teach web literacy in groundbreaking ways.

"Our hope is that continued curiosity and growth will ultimately lead students to develop a more critical, informed and active role in technology and its use in the world around us."
