Dear James Martin

Following the successful development and intensification of our exchange with influential associations
in the fields of Systems Engineering and Information, Product & Service Design (IIID / designaustria)
in 2017, we are happy to announce some highlights of 2018 and the forthcoming months.

Thanks to David Rousseau, valued member of the BCSSS Scientific Council, leader of the BCSSS Research Group Systems Science and Philosophy and current President of the International Society
for the Systems Sciences 2018/2019
, we are able to share a variety of pleasent news:

In January 2018 David Rousseau participated in this year’s "International Council on Systems
Engineering
International Workshops" (INCOSE IW18). Together with David Long (INCOSE past President), Dr. Michael Watson (Director of the NASA Systems Engineering Research Consortium)
and Donna Rhodes (Director of the MIT Systems Engineering Advancement Research Initiative) Rousseau gave an overview session on Model-Based Systems Enginering (MBSE), he invited to
two workshops and he held a plenary lecture on Scientific Systems Principles, A Culture Change
for Most Systems Engineers”.

INCOSE IW18 marked the first of some auspicious news, in particular regarding the positive
development and increasing connection to leading experts from the field of
Systems Engineering.

The next meeting is going to take place in Oregon, USA, in March 2018: The 2018 NSF Design
Circle Workshop: Designing and Developing Global Engineering Systems
. Organized by the National
Science Foundation (NSF) in co-operation with the Oregon State University the goal of this workshop
is bring together educators and researchers in the fields of Engineering Design and Systems Engineering to use the state-of-the-art in those fields with the objective of addressing global, real-world challenges
that impact people, our planet, and the economy. David Rousseau is also invited to attend.

In July 2018 we are lookig forward to two further events, the BCSSS is going to join represented by
David Rousseau: The INCOSE International Symposium (IS 2018) in Washington, D.C., USA,
on "Delivering Systems in the Age of Globalization" and the ISSS2018 in Corvallis, Oregon, USA,
themed “Innovation and Optimization in Nature and Design”.

The European highlight in autumn of the year will be the 10th Congress of the European Union for Systemics, UES 2018 in Brussels in October 2018 in co-operation with the European Meetings
on Cybernetics and Systems Research (emcsr avantgarde). The scope of this conference will widen
our view of possible futures from an European perspective with the key question "A systemic vision
of the crises. From optimization to change strategy?".

Besides his high commitment during symposia and conferences, together with his BCSSS Research Group colleagues BCSSS Scientific Council member Dr. Jennifer Wilby, Julie Billingham and BCSSS Managing Director Stefan Blachfellner, David Rousseau is going to publish the next forthcoming volume
of the Springer book series "Translational Systems Sciences" with the title "General Systemology. Transdisciplinarity for Discovery, Insight, and Innovation" in 2018.
Thanks to Rousseau's presence this book already attracted attention before its date of publication.

Dear friends and colleagues,

the BCSSS team wishes you all the best for 2018.
We are looking forward to see you soon.
