Dear James Martin

The BCSSS is pleased to announce this unique opportunity which originates from our collaboration with the International Council on Systems Engineering and invites you to join the

INCOSE Webinar 76 - Systems Philosophy and its Relevance to SE

on Wednesday 6 May 2015, 11:00am EDT, USA / 5:00pm CEST, Austria presented by David Rousseau PhD BEng FRSA, Member of the BCSSS Scientific Council.

The INCOSE Systems Science Working Group is exploring how Systems Philosophy can be used to support expansion of the theoretical foundations of Systems Engineering (SE). This webinar will provide an overview of our joint plans for work in this area and explore some of the challenges and opportunities of this project. The webinar will explore how Systems Philosophy can aid the development of GST, and how a GST can help unify and expand the theoretical foundations of SE. Taken together, Systems Philosophy and GST can be used to develop a “General Systems Transdiscipline” (GSTD), which will greatly extend the capacity of SE to deal with complexity.

Call for Papers and Participation

Governing the Anthropocene: the greatest challenge for systems thinking in practice?

The 59th Meeting of the International Society for the Systems Sciences will be held in Berlin, Germany, August 2 - 7, 2015.

Conference co-hosts, Ray Ison (ISSS President) and Louis Klein (ISSS Vice President for Conferences), extend an invitation to join the ISSS in Berlin from the 2nd-7th August 2015 for a conference that:

  • challenges systems thinkers, researchers, practitioners, scientists to reflect upon what they do, or might do, in governing the Anthropocene;
  • creates an opportunity for you to contribute a paper or papers relevant to the conference theme and which fit within the ISSS SIGs (special integration groups) and other themes that are being planned;
  • enables you to experience the ambience and excitement that is Berlin.
We echo their call and invite you to submit your contribution to the ISSS Special Integration Groups (SIG) for Systems Philosophy and for Research towards General Theories of Systems

Where do good ideas come from?

The chance favors the connected mind. The connections for these projects and many more have been established at the International Federation for Systems Research Conversations in April 2014 in Linz, Austria. If you are interested in the back stories, the IFSR has published the IFSR Conversations Proceedings 2014 on its website. Please follow the link to read about the starting point of the General Systems Transdiscipline Research and many more ...

We are looking forward to meet you soon in Vienna, the Web, and Berlin.

Best regards,

Stefan Blachfellner
