Complex Systems Working Group Webinar Announcement
Thursday, June 11, 2015
3:00PM – 4:30PM EDT
“Agile Systems Engineering”
Complex Systems Working Group members and friends:
You may recall that during our meetings at the International Workshop this past January, we discussed the importance and value of building collaborative relationships with other INCOSE working group. One INCOSE WG with which we have a great deal of mutual interest is the Agile Systems Engineering Working Group, chaired by Rick Dove. We identified Agility as an important enabling capability for dealing with complexity and working in complex environments; likewise, the Agile SE group has observed that Agile SE places a premium on being able to recognize and work in complexity contexts.
Mike and I have had a number of conversations with Rick and the other leaders of the Agile SE WG about what they are doing and how we might be able to work together to bring new perspectives and sets of knowledge to each others problem sets. In addition, I think that the model of Working Group activity that Rick has set up in the Agile SE group is a good template for us to organize against and leverage the expertise and energy in our members to generate product sets that are useful for (and used by) SE practitioners in the INCOSE community.
To that end, the Complex Systems Working Group is hosting a Webinar on Thursday, June 4, 2015, from 3:00PM – 4:30PM, Eastern Daylight Time, at which Rick Dove and members of the Agile SE Working Group will join us to discuss recent work by the Agile SE group, their perspectives on agility, and potential areas of collaboration between the members of our two groups. You are cordially invited to join the conversation, which I think will be interesting and informative.
Going back to my days working on military command and control problems, I have seen agility as the key enabler of effectiveness when working in modern operational environments, which are characterized by complexity, volatility and deep uncertainty. I think those three attributes do just as well describing the environments in which today’s systems engineers work – and that agility is just as important for systems engineers as it is for military commanders and planners.
We hope to talk to you on the 11th.
