fyi

There were no changes to the Foundations of SE articles in this version of SEBOK. But there will be changes to these next year as the SSWG gears up to make the appropriate changes. If you are interested in helping incorporate such changes, please let us know.

James,

I would be interested in suggesting changes or additions to SEBOK in the next iteration. But I think we should decide on and vet the changes within SSWG, pass them on to NSWG, CxSWG, and maybe even SoSWG to recommend them as a group as a consensus. Or at least a consensus within SSWG if the latter proves too difficult.

Len,

We would look forward to your suggestions for improving SEBOK in the systems fundamentals area.

Just a reminder to everyone about the purpose of SEBOK.wiki.  This is a Guide to the SE Body of Knowledge. The SEBOK is intended as the basis for SE curriculum development and should provide a summary of what is contained in the SE and Systems literature. It is not the place for original material

Therefore, getting consensus on what goes into SEBOK is really about getting agreement on what is the best way to summarize the existing literature. Because it is a wiki, the articles must be short. We cannot stuff everything we can think of into that format.

If you see something that should be in the SEBOK but is not yet in the literature, then the path to progress is to get this new material into the literature (ie, the Body of Knowledge) in some form or fashion. Only then can the SEBOK make reference to this published material.

1. The SEBOK was intended as a basis for SE self-development planning toward their personal best. When did it get constrained to not only as the basis for SE curriculum development?
2. A Guide should also highlight the absence of information regarding key aspects of SE and the presence of yet-to-be-vetted information (thus possible mis-information).

I did not mean to imply SEBOK's only use is for curriculum development. You list one of the other among many of its intended use cases. The use cases are listed her: http://sebokwiki.org/wiki/SEBoK_Users_and_Uses

Of course, it should be a guide to what information is missing or misleading in the BOK.

I do not find any evidence that the claims labeled Use Cases have been assessed for utility and completeness. Should not a Guide identify and bound its intended usage then provide an estimate of effectiveness in that regard/

Pls note that I am asking these questions in the context of the ‘science’ facet of system engineering.

Regarding "Of course —“ pls point to the SEBOK paragraph(s) that highlight gaps or errors in the SE milieu.
