Windows 2000 server SP 4. Fresh new server from Dell.
We installed the ASA server product (as administrator) and rebooted (logging
in as administrator again). When we launch Sybase Central, it shows an
hourglass briefly and then goes back to a normal mouse pointer. No Sybase
Central appears and a text document is added to our desktop called:
SCJ_errors.txt. This document contains a stack trace that I append below.
We've done lots/and lots of installs and never seen this one. I am puzzled
by the version discrepency between the version info for scjview I posted
above and the reported version in the stack trace below. We've uninstalled
and reinstalled three times. Any thoughts?

Eventually that leads tot he JVM libraries picking up the windows settings
that seem to have some 'Accessibility' option set on (see Control Panel,
Accessibility Options) and the JVM is then trying to locate and load
the JavaAccessBridge.jar to match that.
As such this is a requirement of the JVM and the Windows user interface
settings picked by your end users there.
My take on this is to either
- disable any accessibility option
or
- download and install the JavaAccessBridge support from Sun
[start here http://java.sun.com/products/accessbridge/ but look
for a more up to date versions if available that work with the
JVM version]
The latter may be mandated by the users.
Speaking of newer versions, you may not want to stick with just the
initial release of the 9.0 product. There are many updates to that and
you can download them today. At least, try out 9.0.2 and the recent
EBFs.

With 9.0.0, the jar access-bridge.jar is already
located in the JVM extensions directory, usually as
%ASANYSH9%\Sun\jre141\lib\ext
[jre142 with later versions like ASA 9.0.2]
Maybe you didn't include the .\ext directory or it's contents?
"Wilf Silversides" <w_ns_silver_ns_sides@fdm_ns_soft.com> wrote in message

%asanysh9%\Sun\jre141\lib\ext
which appears in your error log as
>> java.ext.dirs=C:\Program Files\Sybase\Shared\sun\jre141\lib\ext
The file it is looking for (at the moment of failure) is access-bridge.jar
but others are probably needed, as well as some dlls in the bin directory
too.

Thanks for the help.
The customer got it to work yesterday evening by uninstalling their Win2K
operating system and reinstalling! Very strange.
As for using later versions of ASA9, we'd love to, but we'd prefer a CD with
the latest patched version rather than the tedious application of upgrades
and EBF's in the field. That turned into a nightmare for SQLAny5 in the end
(never could get clients to upgrade and patch all the machines at their
site) I guess we should contact our Sybase rep and see if they have anything
for us.
yours,
wilf
