Hi

did you try downloading a new version?  I tried to launch mine and also got an error.  But a fresh download did the trick.  I’m not sure if we changed something at some point that would have impacted this.  But the version that is on the web now works ok for me.

Let us know if this works.

Eric

Hi,

Yes, I've already tried a new download just before posting on this group. I can give another try if you've published a new version since Oct 25th.

Hi,
The file downloaded has a timestamp Feb 14 2011. In fact, the issue is when using TNG from two users on the same Mac.
I've installed it from a superuser account and wanted to use it with a normal user account. Everything works fine this way.
But if I try once to call StarLogo from the superuser account, it crashes and cannot be launched later from any account. I need to reinstall it to make it work again.

So the workaround is to call it only from one account. Before Mavericks, i was able to use it from both accounts.

Regards

I was able to replicate this.  Do you know if you have oracle’s java 7 installed or only apple’s java 6?

Hi,

After upgrading to Mavericks, I couldn't launch any java app. I had to install Java on both accounts (path issue maybe for the second account) as specified here.

Default java for both accounts is in /usr/bin: java version "1.7.0_25", Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_25-b15), Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.25-b01, mixed mode).

According to what I've read elsewhere, 1.6 is uninstalled during upgrade.

Regards,

Jack

In fact, /usr/bin/java is a symlink to  /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/Current/Commands/java (that is 1.7).

In /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Commands, java -version gives 1.6.0_65 (but it should not be the current version).

Strangely, all previous versions (in /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions) from 1.4 to 1.6 return version 1.6.0_65 (no symlink to 1.6).

/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/CurrentJDK/Home/bin/java -version returns 1.6.0_65.

/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/Current/Commands/java -version returns 1.7.0_25.

I think I found the problem.  We need to replace our java application stub.  This has happened once before on a mac java update.

Can you try the following...

Right click (or ctrl-click) on the starlogo tng app and choose "show package contents".   Open the mac os folder that is in there and delete the javaapplicationstub and replace it with this one.  I've attached it compressed inside a zip (which you need to extract it first).  Let us know if that works.

Hi,

Sorry for the time to answer. I cannot execute your javastub. I have got an error saying that the javastub is tampered and that I should put it in trash.

Sorry for the extended break here.

I put together a disk image with just the starlogo application with the new java stub here

Will you give that a try - drop the app that is inside this into your existing StarLogo TNG folder (where the models already are).  Let us know if you have any luck with that.

Hello,

I've tried it but it is not the solution. When downloaded from a PC, whe I run the app (on the mac), the splash screen never get off. When downloaded form the mac (FF or Chrome), I've get a message telling me to put the app to trash since it is corrupted.

Thanks for bearing with us.  I have another version that I've uploaded here

This is a full install of TNG.  I've checked it on a couple of machines and it seems to work ok (I was able to replicate your problem).  I'm hopeful that this fixes it for you.

Thanks

I've had an issue with a corrupted javastub. In fact this is due to GateKeeper. I've changed the option to allow running of all kind of programs. There is also a possibility through codesign -s - --force StarLogoTNG.app and then allow it through security panel.

After that issue resolved, the program runs like a charm.

thanks a lot

Thanks Eric,
I was able to run this dmg on Maverick. I had to go into System Preferences\Security&Privacy\General and set Allow Apps downloaded from "anywhere."

Hi Eric,

I can't get that dmg to work on my computer - once installed, I right-click open on it in the finder, and I get the message that the file is damaged and should be moved to the trash.  I am running 10.9.2.

Any idea how to get around this?

I think this is the same problem some other users have had—

go into System Preferences\Security&Privacy\General and set Allow Apps downloaded from "anywhere.”

Let us know if that works.
