Hi folks,

I got a new macbook, so I have a fresh install of rstan and thought I'd just run the schools example to check the install, but I encounter a segfault. The log of the R session and Apple crash report is here: https://gist.github.com/mike-lawrence/9328152

Thoughts?

Mike

Update: deleted R.framework, reinstalled R, installed *only* rstan and the segfault didn't occur when running the schools example. So the previous segfault must be related to how I installed other packages before rstan in my previous attempt. I'll investigate and post what I find...

Thanks for the update.

Did you quit R and restart before trying to run RStan
the first time?

Yup. I reproduced the segfault several times, each from fresh sessions.

Hi, I have the same issue. However, even after several times I deleted R.framework, reinstalled R, and installed rstan, R still gives me a segfault with schools example, and crashes.

Rats example also gives the same error.

Other than segfault, if I run the model without using the .stan file (as it is given at the "Getting Started" page) I also have:

*** caught bus error ***
address 0x10f2c5000, cause 'non-existent physical address'

So, it is possible, I am missing something, but I cannot figure it out for the past two days.

I have a mac (Mavericks (10.9.2)), and I installed R "Spring Dance" (3.1.0)

Thanks.

Have you been able to get the Rcpp demo working?

I don't think anyone's tested with the new R yet --- it's possible
there's some issue there, too.

I'll note that I was eventually able to get everything working but unfortunately was trying too many things to discern afterwards what I did to achieve this, sorry!

Try install Rcpp from source before installing rstan.

Yes, it was related with the new R.

I reinstalled the earlier version, and now the example works.

Just a note to add that I'm getting the same problem (using  R 3.1.0 ).

I'll check back in a few weeks, in case there's a fix compatible with the new R.

Appreciate all the time you folks put into Stan.  Thank you.

Are you using clang++ or llvm-g++-4.2?
