SR(A)WN 2015 — 2

This is the second issue of the Student Robotics (Almost) Weekly Newsletter, a (roughly) fortnightly newsletter which summarises the goings-on across SR. This is a bit of an experiment, so if you have feedback or think we've missed something, feel free to reply to this thread. Emboldened items are ones which we believe could do with extra hands. An absence of emboldening does not necessarily mean that everything is done.

  • A deadline for the submission of game ideas [0] to the game discussion list [1] has been announced. Game ideas must be submitted by 25th June, and voting will happen roughly two weeks later.

  • Work is continuing on our child protection policies, and Jon Bartlett has produced a draft policy [2] on DBS checks (which also mentions Blueshirt induction procedure). Review would be welcome.

  • Peter Law has produced statistics detailing which teams used custom firmware on their Ruggeduino, and how many teams used their Ruggeduino at all. The data can be found in ticket #2462.

  • A Google Hangout took place where Peter Law introduced Badger and how to create a local instance. In the process, documentation was updated and a gerrit patch submitted to improve the instructions. See the list thread [3] for details.

  • The final draft of the competition video has been produced. #2470

  • The SR2014 forums have now been closed. The IDE will remain open until all remaining kit has been returned. #2485

  • Peter Law has dissected what went wrong with the scoring system at the competition (which led to awarding third place to the wrong team) and what can be done to try to prevent this from occurring next year. Trac tickets have also been issued. See the list thread [4].

  • Work was done on the motor board firmware at last week's doing [5]. A README [6] providing information on how to compile the firmware and flash a motor board has been submitted to Gerrit. Work also began on PWM braking functionality.

  • spending.git [7] has been been converted to use ledger [8].

Thanks to Murray Colpman, Tom Leese, Freddie Nash, and Tyler Ward for contributing. The previous issue can be found here [9].
