Hi all,

On Wednesday 22nd April we will have a doing to prepare everything in Southampton ready for the competition. For more details on exactly what needs preparing you should have a look at ticket #2690 [0].

We will need to have everything done by the end of the day since the equipment will be going into Rob’s car either that evening or on Thursday morning so any help will be appreciated. I imagine it will take the majority of the doing to prepare this stuff, and depending on how time is we’ll either get food at the pub or get a takeaway.

A week before, on the 15th, I will be helping Lilafisch transport some laser cut pieces of wood which form the flags from her house to campus. If anyone is around then, I’m sure we could do with your help so please get in contact with me off list if you’re available. Depending on numbers, we might stay at the doing later on and do some preparations for the next week.

Tom

An idea that's re-entered my brain, can't remember who originally
thought of it: it'd be great if we could have a full equipment and
software rig on helpdesk, that operates all parts of the kit when turned
on. This would allow any part that competitors think is broken to be
swapped into the reference system and tested there. That avoids any
drawn out testing situation.

The work required to do this is accrual of relevant bits of electronics
/ whatever that can be operated by the kit, writing some software to do
it, and putting it all together.

The basic version of this could be the test scripts and test adapters we had for testing the kit before kickstart.
Having a power supply there would be nice.

The next step up would be a dedicated laptop with everything ready for any blueshirt to use it.

cheers

Due to various circumstances, this doing is now happening on Tuesday 21st April rather than the Wednesday.

Everything that needs to come from Southampton and then go to Newbury needs to be ready by Wednesday afternoon, therefore we need to spend Tuesday making sure everything is actually ready to go.

Unfortunately, I don't yet know if we'll be able to use the room that the vault is attached to, or even our traditional meeting room, so I will post an update tomorrow regarding times and such. I imagine that we'll want to start earlier than 5pm to get everything done, but obviously people can come and go as necessary so it doesn't clash with other commitments (i.e. lectures!).

The plan of action will be to:
 - Build all 15 flags.
 - Fix all robot markers.
 - Some last-minute SRComp Pi testing (preferably).

I imagine the doing on Wednesday will probably not happen this week since people will most likely be tired after this and there won't be much else to do.

The level 4 seminar room in Mountbatten is available tomorrow between 12 and 2pm and then it's available again "late evening". I've put in a request to book our normal doing room in Zepler from 6pm, but haven't heard back yet.

Therefore, the plans at the moment are: I will be at the seminar room from midday tomorrow to begin work (anyone who is free to help would be much appreciated). Near to 2pm, we will start to move everything we will need to a different location. Unfortunately, we'll have no official location at that time, but perhaps we'll find an empty room or maybe sit in Zepler reception, that's not known yet. Thankfully, we don't actually have too much to carry; just wood, screws, glue, etc. People can contact me on IRC or by mobile tomorrow if they're unable to find us.

Hope to see as many of you tomorrow as possible!

I've now heard back, and we have that room should we need it.
