Geographical Lieutenants?

It occurred to me while writing the above that we might benefit from
having generalised nominated people for each geographical area. I'd
see this as being orthogonal to the SC, much as the treasury is, and
possibly an extension of what already happens for the mentor
organisation.

I'm not suggesting that anything major changes in this area -- people
are already doing these roles -- merely that we record that it's
happening and ensure it's clear who's doing them.

At the moment, I think that the following people are doing this:
* Bristol: George
* Southampton: Murray
* Oxford(ish): Me (Peter)

I think it might be useful to have someone representing the London area.

The other thing we could potentially do is put this info on the
website so that any new volunteers in those geographies can find a
person near them to talk to.

[1] Since then the mentor active day and a Bristol Tech Day has
happened, both of which have improved cross-group communication,
though I still feel the idea is a useful one.

This feels like a good idea to me. One port of call to getting in contact with people from a particular branch seems quite useful and beneficial.

Agreed. Do you think a page on Trac is enough for this?

Definitely think this is a good idea. I must admit, I thought there was already a page on the website about how to contact specific branches, but I can't find one!

The 'how to volunteer' section on this was recently made more vague, since the website doesn't get updated very regularly.

It should work just as well to contact info@ which will then forward the person to the relevant person in the local branch.

Indeed, I was wondering about having location based or personal @srobo
emails on the site, but as mentioned it doesn't get updated very much
so they'd probably go out of date too fast.

This is probably the best solution; let's leave the website as it is
and have a trac page as Tom suggested.
