Hi all–

lilafisch and I are doing a bit of number crunching on the data from the SR2014 competition[0]. I'll add data to this thread as we go.

Firstly, some basic analysis: the distribution of points amongst team appearances (in which the team was both present and not disqualified), covering both the knockouts and the league.

Hi all-

In response to a question posed by Jon Bartlett, the number of
appearances in which a team took more than two zones in Slots, under
the same conditions:

2.906% of appearances (22 of 757)

Number of teams: 5

HRS: 13
HSO: 5
MAI: 2
RGS: 1
BRK: 1

Hi,
Thanks for this. Just to clarify, how many teams took two or more
zones (assuming these are for three or more zones)?

Thanks,
Jon

Hi Jon-

Apologies, I misspoke—that was for two or more zones, not more than
two zones. Nobody took three or more zones.

Cool, thanks. Does scoring data exist from earlier competitions?

Hi Jon-

I believe they do, but not in anything like such a usable form as the
2014 data. Eldritch Redis database dumps are involved.

I could look at the most recent Smallpeice data but I fear it may not
be very useful.

Not to worry then - possibly something that could be considered as a
standard part of post-competition stuff for the future.
Thanks,
Jon

The 2013 data is available as raw scoring YAML files, here:

Hi,
With apologies for the horrible formatting, a brief analysis of SR2013
(A Strange Game) follows.

Of 408 'runs' (102 matches, 4 teams in each):

Movement -

340 runs (83.3%) robot moved from start zone
68 runs (16.7%) no movement

Tokens -

All teams ended at least one round with a token in a zone (sometimes
apparently without actually moving).

165 runs (40.4%) moved zero tokens to a zone
187 runs (45.8%) moved one token to a zone

9 teams
22 runs (5.4%) moved two tokens to zones

2 teams
6 runs (1.5%) moved three tokens to zones

1 team (HSO)
1 run (0.25%) moved four tokens to zones

1 team (HSO2)
1 run (0.25%) moved five tokens to zones

1 team (HSO2)
1 run (0.25%) moved six tokens to zones

Pedestals -

5 teams placed tokens on pedestals
25 runs (6.1%) moved at least one token to a pedestal.

Cheers,
Jon
