I have several directories for different projects in the working directory menu at the top of Spyder’s interface (v. 2.3.4).

Suppose I change to a different one, there is a button to the right whose tooltip says “Set as current console’s working directory”. However, when I click it, both the console and the IPython console still show the previous directory with %pwd.

Similarly, when editing a file, in the Editor’s menu in the upper right corner of the window there is an item that promises “Set console working directory”, presumably based on the file’s location. Again, choosing it doesn’t change either console’s working directory.

Are these broken items, or are they doing something that’s not apparent to me?

In any case, how do I quickly change a console’s working directory to a particular folder that’s already showing in the File Explorer?

Simplest I could find is to restart the IPython console, browse to the directory in the regular console, or copy the path from the working directory menu and then type %cd <paste>, none of which are as simple as a button or menu item.

Hi,

The bug you mentioned about the working directory is fixed and will be released in Spyder 2.3.5. It only happened in Python 3, by the way.

Cheers,
Carlos

Good to hear, thanks. Yes, I was using Python 3.

I did realize that the Editor menu item “Set console working directory” does do something, it also copies the current file’s directory into the working directory list.
