How to update Spyder 3.0.2 to Spyder 3.1.4 in mac OS?

Do you have pip on your computer?  to find out try typing 'which pip' and see if you get a reply. If so try typing 'pip install upgrade Spyder'

Instructions in several places say conda install spyder, or conda update or commands like that. Where do I run these? I've tdried from w/i Spyder and in my Mac terminal with no joy. I want to update Spyder.
