Dataframes sometimes opens lists as text sometimes opens items in a separate dataframe editor

I noticed that sometimes the data frame editor will open a list as text when I double click on it. Othertimes I will open the list in a separate dataframe editor. What controls that ? Is there some type of modification I can do to my lists to make sure that they are opened as a separate dataframe editor
