while loading Mnist data: kernel died unexpectedly. Use 'Restart kernel'

I am trying to load data,  but this leads to following error:

It seems the kernel died unexpectedly. Use 'Restart kernel' to continue using this console.

This is the code:

from sklearn.datasets import fetch_mldata

mnist = fetch_mldata('MNIST original', data_home=".")

print "finish load MNIST dataset"

Hi,

This doesn't seem to be a problem in Spyder 3.0 (at least in the branch of pull request 2878, which is going to be merged in beta7 :-)
