Just to let folk here know that a few of the Sports-related
improvements developed here have gone live. It's a very softly-softly
launch due to the time of year, essentially a preview of 'schema.org
v2' for early next year. Many thanks to all here for their
contributions and to Jason Johnson for leading much of this work over
the last year. We haven't blogged etc in detail on any of the changes
but there's a high level overview at
http://schema.org/docs/releases.html#sdo-venkman plus all the details
(schemas, examples, commit history etc.) are as usual in Github c/o
http://github.com/rvguha/schemaorg

Excerpting from the Sports section of the release notes (see link
above for hypertext version):

"Added SportsOrganization as a super-type of SportsTeam, representing
sports organizations, including sports teams, governing bodies, and
sports associations. Added a sport property to indicate the associated
sport(s) for a SportsOrganization; also addedcoach and athlete
properties. Added numberedPosition property to OrganizationRole. Added
homeTeam and awayTeam properties to SportsEvent, alongside a
super-property of those, competitor."

Thanks again,

Dan

We have just 'soft launched' the large package of improvements
recently circulated as the 'venkman' release. While they are intended
as the foundation for a "version 2.0" release we wanted to get the
vocabulary improvements out there ASAP without rushing to v2
prematurely. There's a lot more that could be said about each set of
changes (Music, Video games, Sports, ItemList / breadcrumbs, etc etc.)
than we can say today, so for now we'll stick with a simple "thank
you!" to all who have participated in this effort. Thanks :)

As always our issue tracker is open to all for any bugs that have
crept in. You'll find it linked from:

thanks again,

Dan
