Hi All,

In the interests of 'pushing something out is better than nothing' we are going to slice up the 2014 Sports Vocab proposal into three distinct parts.

This first part will be a 'Sports Agents Vocab' and focus on describing sports organizations and athletes. An initial draft proposal + build is completed and ready for review and comment.  I encourage you to provide feedback ASAP as we hope to ship this immediately.

The second part will be a 'Sports Events Vocab' and focus on describing sports events and the 'action events' (aka. plays) that occur within those events.  See example of such content here:  http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/playbyplay?gameId=400554314.  Timelines for a proposal focused on this part are TBD but I would like to hear from volunteers interest in participating.

The third part will focus on describing sports statistics, or more generically, tabular data like this: http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/14001/colin-kaepernick.  The recent derivative proposal around 'Measurements' is focused on this area and there is strong alignment with the work around CSVs and Tabular Data (http://www.w3.org/blog/data/2014/07/10/csv-on-the-web-metadata-vocabulary-for-tabular-data-and-other-updates/).

If you are interested in participating in developing a proposal for the 2nd or 3rd parts identified, please let us know.

Cheers,

- Jason

I'm interested in both #2 and #3. We've already got good vocabs in SportsML for both that I think would be helpful.

Depending on timelines, I can help with #2 and #3.

Hi Jason, I'd definitely like to participate in both #2 and #3. Tabular-data is a focus of the CSV on the Web working group, which would be a good motivating factor.

Hi Jason,

Part one:
Happy with the proposal.
'athlete' seems like a suitable compromise. It's the term used by the ODF, which is the most widely deployed Sport model that I know of. I might prefer 'member', but that means we would have to type the domain to accommodate non-athletic members.
'coach' therefore follows.
'sport' seems reasonable. Though 'discipline' might be more accurate in some scenarios, it can be problematic in others and is less probably palatable generally.
'numberedPosition' seems applicable. I can see how this would be used in Soccer, Horse Racing, Driving etc.

I'm generally reassured by something I read recently, along the lines of 'schema.org is not the only vocab'.

Parts two and three:
Happy to be involved.

Tom

Hello
My comments:
unless I misunderstood the sport complete structure...

property: athlete, coach should be reified to become a class, a sub-class of Person.

-I am sure that you find something interesting to say about those persons other than just a member of a team
-Messi is a member of FCB, is member of Team Argentina, was born in  Rosario, Argentina...
-Messi:athlete <-- sponsors --> Predator:Product < --- produced by --> adidas:Vendor
