I've always been under the impression that duplicates should be reported, but should that really be the case? I mean, if you have an experienced quiz maker creating a duplicate of any quality quiz, than by all means report it. However, when you have a new quiz maker who makes a US state capital quiz with 15 answers, should it be reported? First of all, I don't think it really hurts anyone, but more importantly, getting their quiz taken offline could hurt their chances of returning to Sporcle. Besides, if they enjoyed making it, why should they be punished? So, here is my question: should you report duplicate quizzes by new Sporclers? I'd love to hear people's thoughts.

I had never really considered reporting duplicate quizzes. There have been a couple of times when I have seen quizzes that are pretty much duplicates of my quizzes and I have been a little peeved. Then again I have inadvertently made quizzes that had been "done" before by someone else. Also most of my quizzes are pretty standard fair. If I made a Cameron Diaz slideshow and then someone else makes one, I wouldn't see that as a huge act of plagiarism. If I was to come up with some of the hugely imaginative stuff that some of you guys come up with and that was copied i would be pretty pissed.  I think that not many quizzes are deliberately remade or copied, rather there are contributors who are either unaware of the convention or just don't care. For me its part of the wider problem of quiz makers who keep making poor quizzes. Poor for various reasons including a lack of originality. We were all "newbies" once and I for one made some pretty terrible quizzes. Its a good point therefore that we don't discourage those guys by removing their early efforts. Having said that if someone comes to Sporcle as a new player and the first few quizzes they play are all terrible, maybe they wont come back either. I would like to see a rule where people have to play a certain number of games before they can make a quiz themselves. This would/might give new guys a proper idea of what a good quiz looks like.
