done/fail on create and update calls

With Spine 1.6.2, we are finding that the (ModelObject).create() and Model.update() methods do not have done/fail attached to it. We are finding, however, that (ModelObject).save() and Model.destroy() do support done/fail. Should the create and update have done/fail, or is it expected that we should be using save() instead of create/update?
