Trouble with osm tools

I am trying to use spatialite osm tools to go back and forth between osm files and spatialite dbs. The issue I've been having is that spatialite_osm_filter always segfaults when it is given a wrt file containing POLYGON((-110.9 32.2, -110.8 32.2, -110.8 32.3, -110.9 32.3, -110.9 32.2)). and a spatialite db made from the tucson osm file run through spatialite_osm_raw.

I'm using version spatialite 4.3.0a and spatialite tools 4.3.0 installed from source on a centOS 7 machine.

Any clues on what's going on?
Also, does spatilite_osm_filter make use of spatial indices? What I'm doing is a waste of time if it doesn't.
