Hey Soupa,

I wanted to encourage everyone to bring a spirit award or two, for teams to have a circle after each game. We did it a couple weeks ago at league and it was really cool. A nice way to end the game and talk about it, appreciate the spirit and competitiveness of other players.

We do it at high school tournaments and it builds connection and community.

So here's the drill

  • Teams take a moment to come together themselves and captains say a word or two as soon as the final point is scored.
  • Then teams line it up and high five each other
  • Then each team comes up with a cheer for the other team (short and sweet or extended)
  • Then teams sit (or stand) in a spirit circle, alternating players of each team: captains say a few words about the game. Then players that wish to do so appreciate another player from the opposite team. Typically by saying "This player....(eg played super hard and never gave up on the disc, and played clean and with great spirit.... then name the player and walk over to that player, hug/fist bump etc, gives them a spirit award, and circle applauds. Players alternate this, one from each team, until finished.
So consider it! Bring some spirit awards-- can be anything, with a fun story or wacky item, an energy bar or whatnot--

It feels good
