to SOUPA
Greetings,

I hope y'all are well.

The SOUPA Board has been having a discussion in light of recent event and we wanted to clarify some things:

1. We would ask that no one encourage any games of Ultimate or get-togethers that would clearly violate expected social distancing norms.

2. If you want to try to meet up with others to throw a disc or run around outside, you can let people know on this listserv or our FB group to contact you personally if they would like to meet up, but please keep the time and place private.

Points 1 and 2 are obviously temporary until Governor Brown's or any further regulations are lifted which would admit us to gather without any social stigma.

3. In general, this email group and our FB group need not be limited to times and places for meeting up for ultimate and the responses about joining in. This is more than a sport; it is a community, and we have always encouraged people to act that way. Invitations to bike polo, hood-to-coast teams, rooms for rent, free apples, and food trains for new kids are always encouraged. If you have something to say, we want to hear it, and that goes for everyone, not just the people who are regular pick-up or league participants. If you are awesome enough to play ultimate once, we consider you awesome forever.

For example, in the middle of our board discussion, James asked if anyone had tips on finding or making hand sanitizer! He got a great response from Greg, no one else said anything about it, and we continued our discussion. It didn't even feel out of place at all, and I loved it. Greg even ... oh, I am just going to paste it, he will forgive me later: "2) I love you (not romantically, hahaha) and am happy to share one of my three remaining spray bottles of hand sanitizer to try to keep you and your family safe, if that's of interest."

This is the example of interaction and leadership that we want for this community.

4. Joel and Russ are both on the board and wrote some things without remembering their Spirit of the Game. It's okay; some people are dealing with a TON of stress right now. They had a very civil discussion with the board and said they had a private conversation which was very productive and have no hard feelings. Both are apologetic to the board and community, and I am (and was) the first to forgive their very understandable concerns.

5. As a result of some things pulling Russ away from ultimate, mainly his ankle needing surgical repair, he is stepping down from the Board and will be focusing on healing and contributing to the community in other ways. We thank him wholeheartedly for everything he has committed to the ultimate community over the last several years and we hope to see others step up and fill in the gaps that will be created by his absence. Thank you, Russ!

TL;DR no ultimate, keep throwing, don't be afraid to say stuff, everyone's cool, and we will miss Russ!

Ultimately,

KRob
