Hi,  my name is Paco Raap.

I am from the Netherlands although my first name would say Spain.

I am busy to implement wireless remote switches from Eurodomest type 972080

So I have an UNO with W5100 ethernet shield and an 433.92 Mhz RX and TX to try to accomplish that.

First part is done the UNO with W5100 can be pinged on the network.

Now the next step is to implement the code to switch the wireless switches and see if we can use the Souliss app on the Phone to change the status of the switches.

Sofar I like to thank the creater of this program :-)

Hi Juan!  I was searching on Wiki but I didn't find what I was looking for. For example in my project there are five DS18B20 temperature sensors in 1-wired bus connection and I don't know how I can read them in Souliss.

Hi Sorin,

a general approach is, be able to get it working as standard arduino, then is just a matter of matching with souliss.

In you case, once you are able to read the temperatures from the sensors, then you just need to import the temperature values into the Souliss memory area, so those temperatures became available to all nodes and to the user interfaces (SoulissApp and openHAB).

The outputs are a water pressure valve, two circulators (pumps) and an electrical heater (in case of the inside temperature is too low, to avoid the pipe frozen)

My name is Guy from Belgium and I'm building a complete domotic system in the new house of my daughter.
All the lighting (LED's) will work on low voltage 24 Vdc, except for some TL-tubes in the cellar and the garage.
Untill today, all the cabling (2,5 mm2) is finished. All the cables for the lights and the pushbuttom are centralized into 2 cabinets. One on the ground floor and  one the first level.
The cabinets are installed and now I'm finishing the internal wiring of the cabinets and the input and output boards.
The whole installaton will run on 5 arduino mega's. All connected by RS485, with one also connected with an ethernet board.

The leddrivers ( I bought them in China for less than 2 US$)  will be installed into the lights, except for the dimmable lights. These drivers will be installed in the cabinets.
Before I decided to do the installation with Souliss, I did some small tests. But now I gone start with the real work, writing the sketches for the 5 nodes I have to install. I'm not a specialist, so I hope to receive some help from the community.

Of course, all my documentation ( system overview, drawings of the I/O boards and my excel-sheets for the installation are available.)

I want try, I'm copy your instruction. I like it is short and good for everyone :-)

But i must update soft on MacBook Pro. New Arduino IDE 1.6.1 (and 1.6.4 may be too) work only in new XOS. 

Or I'm will use VirtualBox with Linux, if some client ask me about it.

Actually we have a working IDE with cores but for Windows only, you can of course get the IDE 1.6.4 and install the cores from the Board Manager, but the latest commit are not quite stable on the core side.

I was tested it today. That Souliss solution work good. I first time use Arduino IDE for ESP, and I'm find it better than http://microflo.org/ solution.

And I'm think about manual for my customer about Arduino IDE and friariello-porting.

I see it is good price solution: ~ 25 Euro 90 cents (OLIMEXINO-32U4 + MOD-IO2) 

Also interesting (ESP8266-EVB + MOD-IO2 and may be MOD-IO2 + MOD-WIFI-ESP8266)

That is solution (MOD-IO2 + MOD-WIFI-ESP8266) possible? It is one solution around 15 Euro only...

Hi Ignat,

the ESP8266 is actually supported as microcontroller and not as transceiver. Unfortunately MOD-ESP8266 has on the UEXT connector only the USART and not the I2C used to control the MOD-IO.

Consider also that all MOD libraries are actually AVR only.

I don't rember but I guess that pins for ESP8266-EVB are connected. So you could try to connect a MOD-IO.

I don't know if the I2C has been ported on ESP8266.

If you have a good relationship with Tsvetan from Olimex, suggest him to revise the MOD-ESP8266 to work directly with MOD-IO and others.

Hi everyone!
I just ended up on Souliss website few days ago as I was looking for an interaction between Arduino and Android, and I got passionate about it (already installed it on my arduino mega + w5100, amazing).
I have background in microelectronics and wireless communications.
I have almost completed the development of a multi function mini board that can accept an arduino mini pro (either 5v or 3.3v), two push button, a mosfet, nrf24 and esp-01 (either one or both at same time), I will post it soon.

We have a repository dedicated to boards designed by Souliss users, actually there are some design by Marco and Joosof. One design, called Battery Board, looks similar to your one.

Is a board designed to operate a year on battery, the schematic is by Joosof and the PCB layout is by KMP Electronics that has also offered them self to build the first protypes.

Yes I have seen the board and it is similar because it has both interfaces (esp and nrf24), but its scope is different. My board is not supposed to run on batteries and it is supposed to be a flexible board that has several functions and you can "wire" just what you need, all in 5x5 cm, it is supposed to be easy to assemble (no smd) and uses an arduino mini pro which you can just plug in if you need it. (You could run just the esp although with only 2 gpio)
Hope to find the time to complete the final check on the routings :-)

I try to realise mini project of home automation. I use OpenHAB system, and some days ago found Souliss binding.

It's cool, in you project i've found almost all ideas wich i would like to bring to life.

I'm new to AVR and Arduino, so i try to build devices from ready modules like here 2 relay IP module

I'm not sure that a I do everything right, but I've forked Souliss git and try to translate yours wiki to Russian language, i suppose it would be good for community :)

Hi, we are Robin and Margaret from England, now living in France.

We've been using HomeVision plus Homeseer (mainly for security and cctv) but wish to migrate to a more versatile open-source Arduino based system.
Arduino memory is too small to include all functionality on one device, however, so we need to split up functionality to different nodes - and Souliss automatic node connection (plus eventually OpenHAB) suggests it might be a viable solution.

Obviously the nature of Souliss means that nodes can communicate with each other, but can Arduino nodes share any and all data between each other?
If so, how would data be requested and returned?, and what data constraints and limitations imposed?

More specifically, would it be possible for a multi-channel inputs 'node' (also receiving remote 8266 sensor triggers) to request corresponding channel responses from config file on an SD card 'node', then send appropriate responses to voice node(s) for speaking announcements at various locations, and to infra-red node(s) for receiving remote control instructions and/or issuing IR commands, and of course relay nodes etc?

Or would a Souliss gateway node be required to coordinate the events and responses of the various nodes?
If a gateway node was bridging Wifi, Ethernet and RS485, would it still have enough memory available to be able to do anything useful in addition, such as acting as a coordinator of 'triggers and responses'?
 
Are there any write-ups anywhere to accompany and explain the library examples?

Is there a centralised 'submitted projects' area (similar to Arduino Playground) that we may learn from?

Hopefully there may already be similar functionality type projects published,  but if not, I will obviously need to develop the different interacting node functionality by myself (for Voice and IR nodes etc, which I could then post for the benefit of others), so before making such a daunting commitment and immersing into all the detail, would it be possible  for some reassurance of whether Souliss should be be suitable for such tasks?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but the fact that I ask them - even after several days of browser drilling - indicates the answers are not easy for me to find, and therefore others may also find them useful.

Whether Souliss is suitable or not, by the way, you have earned my greatest respect and admiration for what you have done.

Most of your questions can be solved with the same answer, "everything is possible". Obviously most of them are complex, but not impossible. Two important things you need to learn is about Ir-Lib or Ir-Remote library to Read and Send Ir commands (Read not integrated on ESP yet) and the Broadcast Message function from Souliss, with this you can send a broadcast msg to the whole network. Maybe Dario can help more on this.

 

Im not agree with Lesjaw, Souliss is based on typicals but you can add code and libraries and combine with Souliss code, most of my adds to this project are maded this way.

 

You've an interesting project, please keep us updated :) If you need help just ask.

The answer is not so simple, using Souliss nodes communicate in peer-to-peer and doesn't go through the Gateway (that is used only by the user interfaces), you are free to transfer a "trigger" from a node to another and then have some action as result.

By default, all nodes share all data with the user interface, this doesn't need any user code. Transfer between nodes for custom purposes, like a trigger to an action performed to another node, require user code (generally a couple of lines).

Consider that Souliss use as average 1 KByte of RAM, so if you are using a UNO (ATmega328) you have less than 1 KByte for your custom libraries (IR one for example), if mixing those will be feasible depends on what you are adding in your node.

As other suggested, ESP8266 is something to look in, consider this module in your design.

yes, i mean we cant make it just as we wish, like the status of door, windows.. to make this we need to modify .h or .cpp file and  providing the UI is Souliss app.  but yes there are more possiblities with souliss with adding more code and library..

Thank you all for your encouragement. You have made me feel very welcome, and already part of the Souliss community. I know I have much to learn, and that I will not be able to achieve everything by myself, but I do have most of the core functionality of my Arduino version of the Homeseer replacement already working on a Nano:

* It receives multiple digital IO's - from various PIRs, beam-breaks, and magnetic door contacts - using MCP23017 port expander modules with interupts, which can be daisy-chained together to offer more input and output channels than I could realistically ever need. It was the recent discovery of 8266s which led me to Souliss, so I have orderd some, and will be extending the input channels to include the wifi remotes (just a simple matter of assigning them channel numbers).

* When an input channel is triggered it speaks an appropriate announcement message using a cheap Wtv020sd16p voice module - the voice messages are sent to a FIFO queue so they don't get lost or swamped, nor cause the Arduino loop to be blocked during the announcements.

* Each input channel has a configurable non-retrigger timeout value to prevent unwanted repeat-triggering annoyances. For instance, the  'Gate' PIR would announce 'Gate 1 visitor' when someone comes to the gate but then not re-announce for 3 minutes despite continued re-triggering. The Gate beam-break detector is only 1 sec however, which prevents anyone else sneaking in behind the visitor without being noticed. The Workshop PIR has 30 min non-retrigger timeout, so my wife hears 'Workshop' when I first enter, but isn't annoyed by further retriggered announcements for the next half hour that I'm working in there, but she will hear 'Hanger Doors' when I leave. The mailbox is 1 hour non-retrigger, so it announces initial delivery, then reminds of the presence of mail every hour until emptied.

* The voice module has 512 message addresses, which I have mapped into 'pages', offering user-selectable custom messages and/or alternative language pages if required. The voice pages can each be selected using IR remote control (IRremote library), and navigated by multi-level voice menus (eg: press 1 to change Language, press 2 to Clone IR buttons, press 3 to change Timeouts press 0 to Exit / press 1 for Default English, press 2 for Custom English, press 3 for Default French, etc).

* The IR remote control can also be used to control relays - only 2 at the moment, one for a Router reboot power off/on sequence when necessary, and another for switching the cctv monitor video stream between the Gate cam and DVR output.

 * The IR remote control also acts as an IR button translator - the Nano is programmed to read a button press from a remote control, and then issue sequences of other IR commands cloned from different remote controllers. So a single remote controller allows me to operate TV, switch video monitor display relay from the gate cam to the dvr, automatically send logon pin code to the dvr, then select dvr camera channel, and also select and control PTZ cameras when necessary.

* The same feature of IR transmit sequences controlling PTZ cctvs also gives ability for ordinary PTZs to be intelligent and auto-tracking, offering timed tours of multiple cameras, and controlled viewing of triggered PIRs etc.

All of the above is already working on a breadboard prototype, but the limited Nano memory prevents me from adding anything else. So at the moment, all of the response parameters for a triggered channel (appropriate voice announcements, IR transmit sequences, relay combinations, alarm time/dates etc.), need to be embedded in the Arduino code because I cannot read or write to a config file on SD card, nor save any event records to log file.

I think it might be possible to squeeze the additional essential required functionality onto a Mega instead of the Nano, but now that I've discovered Souliss it would seem to make much more sense to aim for an equivalent modular 'distributed' system instead, if possible.

It would offer easy future expansion (I already plan to eventually include X10 control, Web Server, Time and Date Alarms etc), but it would also offer possibility for multiple distributed similar functionality modules - allowing for several Voice announcers and IR nodes to be used in multiple locations as required.


Basically, it all depends on a Souliss node being able to request and receive a string from another broadcasting node?

I have already written and tested some 'parser' code, which on the SD node would parse through the config file to find the required channel number line entry for it to broadcast that string to all nodes, and all nodes would receive and parse that channel string as appropriate, looking for voice commands to speak if a Voice node, or IR commands to transmit if an IR node, etc.

This is my first Arduino project though, and I'm afraid I have no idea how to proceed to make Souliss nodes able to transmit or receive strings between each other (or even if it is possible), so any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.

the short answer is yes, you could as long your custom code doesn't use more than 1 KByte of RAM dynamically. Just to give you an idea, if you want to broadcast an "Alarm" condition from a node to others you just need to:

// Sender
if(...) publish(Alarm);

// Receiver
if(subscribe(Alarm))
{
   // Do something
}

And of course you can create your own state to broadcast (or multicast) and also you can carry a payload if you need.

Hi Bruce! the Aquarium Automation is one of my goals! :) I'm working now on a node to control the light and meassure temperature of my little aquarium, (ph and other sensor are on the way)  I printed (3dprinted) an automated feeder connected to a servo to use on it too and I've more projects and ideas for it.

Found Souliss after looking for a way to communicate between nodes.

My goal is to have autonomous rc cars controlled by android phone. Eventually the nodes would communicate to prevent running into each other while receiving main commands from android app. I will start with just one node, the gateway, and an arduino app to keep it simple.

Is Souliss capable of this type of setup? If a similar setup is out there please point me in the right direction. 

Hope to contribute to Souliss throughout the project.

HI, my name is Marcelo. I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I have some electronics and programmings skils and are very excited about the souliss model, specially the implementation on the ESP8266 as a replacement for the Arduino controller.

Right now I have 2 nodes (both ESP07 chips) working. One  as a future meteo station (at this time have BMP085 and DTH11 working) and the second one as lights switch controller.

I like to learn and collaborate at the same time, because i think the ESP8266+souliss potencial is huge and is THE way to home automation.

Btw I am making commercial souliss board and planning to sale this board here in Indonesia... I am trying to make it as cheap as possible.. So we can have souliss user as many as we can... I did this not only for making profit but I really want that people here in Indonesia can enjoy home automation.. So it's not just rich people can have home automation in their house :-)..

Right now I have smart fitting and smart sensor ready.. And smart fitting is on production stage..

I was researching information on creating a web interface for my ESP8266-01. Granted it only has 2 I/O pins but I have gotten code from AdaFruit  to

allow me to connect a MCP23017 16 I/O pin expander chip and control it with the 2 I/O pins of the 8266-01. In my searches I happen to run across you site

 and found it interesting.

Is it possible to setup souliss to control those 16 I/O pins? If so, how would you set that up?

P.S.  Where can I find detailed information on setting up Souliss  on my smartphone?

Hi John

Just a personal suggestion from my side - if the 8266-01 is not really mandatory for whatever reason for your project, I strongly recommend to you to buy a ESP8266-12. It should be just a few bugs (e.g. on Ebay) and you can easily access all pins (6 I/O in total) to make full use out of it. Code should be totally equal for both modules. So should be functionality - you just get these additional pins to work with.

Maybe this will make your project easier in the end.

Thank you Neils for the suggestion.

Since the MCP23017 chip is I2C compatible and has 16 I/O pins available, I can daisy chain several together and get up to 112 I/O pins off of a single ESP8266-01 board. I have no clue what I would do with that many I/O pins but it is possible!!  I have one Sketch that I can control all the I/O pins via a very simple web page but nothing even close to souliss.

What kind of example do you need? Just one that shows the code I can load into the 8266 to run the 23017?  I also have an example that was sent to me that is a combination of the 8266 AdvancedWebServer sketch and the code to control the 23017. It has more stuff in the sketch to do other things that I don't need. This web server stuff is WAY over my head in understanding. I was hoping to be able to turn on 1 light or several with just the touch of a button on the smartphone.

I greatly appreciate your help.

Hi all I'm a long time lurker trying to understand something in the IoT world. 

I'm an experienced web application developer. Particularly interested in anything concerning web applications and new technologies. I have good knowledge of and interested in open source technologies on the whole and java enterprise server side development in particular. I also have good knowledge in electronics and recently built (part of) my house so I made my personal project for wirings, electrical system and every technological system inside and achieved some basic install at the moment. I'd like to understand the better way to add remote (web based) view and control of all my lights, loads, electrical and water consumptions, light/temp/moisture sensors and also program some useful scenario off course! I never put my hands on arduino, so I need to understand the basics first.

Hello everyone will come 3D printing group clonewars and Souliss ES

Besides professionally (for health is just me :( ) Installer electrician, Home Automation, PLCs, Networks, Computer technician.

Hobbies: robotics, electronics, 3D printing, photography, paragliding and in aircraft ;-) I give the weirdest haha.
