This is a complete list of my skeinforge settings as of 12/5/2011. I
am making very successful prints.

both "alteration" and following those are the profile settings. I will
refer to these in future e-mails

These settings assume that you are using a raft. I use a raft because
it is vary tolerant of acylic warping which occurred with my previous
3D printer and Solidoodle.

--- The current settings holds the part a bit tighter to the raft for
prints that are likely to peel or warp or get knocked over:

--- The optimal flow settings for my extruder may be slightly
different than yours since my gear is a little different from
production standard. but I suggest you try mine and tweak it .1 higher
if you have trouble. My flow rate eliminated blobs and tracking thru
plastic.

Note: I forgot to mention:

For easiest release of the raft from the platform do not squish the
raft, the lines should be rounded and only slightly flattened.

only change the Z value by 0.05 at a time
If the lines have a dribbled look, then lower the nozzle a bit in
start.gcode ( a larger magnitude of the Z value)
If the lines look a squished, then raise the nozzle a bit in
start.gcode ( a smaller maginitude of the Z value)

for testing purposes, I edit the .gcode for the part I am printing.
The relevant Z value is the first non-zero value in the first few
lines

With my start.gcode, preheat your nozzle in Pronterface and do a test
extrusion prior to starting the print.

----- EXPLANATION ----

My start.gcode omits Sam's preheat and wait command
M109 S200.0

I deleted this because sometimes, the print would not start even
though the nozzle was "close" to 200°C

Since I always manually preheat my nozzle and do a test extrusion,
this had no impact on me.

Sam -- if this configuration works better than your existing one, do you plan to update the Solidoodle download?  It would be easier for me to wait to obtain it from there rather than update each of these files individually. :)

I have further refined some values:

bottom>bottom altitude increased from 0.0 to 0.05 for easier release
of part from raft

cool>Bridge Cool (Celcius): 1.0 increased to 5.0 to try to help with
bridging and overhangs, may have helped a little bit

cool>Minimum Layer Time (seconds): 5.0 increased to 10.0 eliminated a
split and bulging in wine glass holder base due to insufficient time
to cool between layers

raft>Support Minimum Angle (degrees): 45.0 increased to 46.0 to match
my design criteria that over hangs 45 degrees or less do not need
support
