Ubuntu Install Error

I just now attempted to install SOFA Stats on a Ubuntu platform and ran into a problem with a dependency on python-wxgtk2.8. It seems that wxgtk is now in version 3.0 and the SOFA installation package failed since the version was not ">= 2.8". To install SOFA I had to go through the following process to load wxgtk2.8:

echo "deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu wily main universe" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/wily-copies.list

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu wily main universe

sudo apt update

sudo apt-get install python-wxgtk2.8

sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/wily-copies.list

sudo apt update

That seemed to work and SOFA is now working on my Ubuntu platform. However, I fear a dependency problem if any of the packages used by SOFA are ever updated and I have to re-load the older wxgtk package. Can SOFA be updated to permit wxgtk3.0?

Almost but there is currently still a problem with HTML rendering (crashes SOFA when the Charts dialog, for example, is opened). I will try again every so often. The version of wxPython 3.0 in 16.04 didn't have a crucial bug fix but even 16.10 seems flaky. Snap packaging could provide a solution which uses an isolated version of wxPython 2.8. But I'm needing to switch attention to a long-standing Mac image libraries problem for now ;-)

Thanks, Grant. I know that the Linux world can be challenging since packages are updated regularly (a good thing), but that may break programs that depend on those packages (a bad thing). I appreciate your continued work on SOFA, it's an important tool for non-stats students.
