Help with a location please - Lokshifke, Russia?

Hi,
I'm hoping that someone can help. I have United States naturalisation document
from 1870 that says the applicant (a relative) originated from : Lokshifke -
Russia. A google search doesn't throw up any answers for this name. Has anyone
any ideas regarding this ? I'm now at a loss as what to do next.

David Pearce is looking for a town written as "Lokshifke, Russia," on
a naturalization document. I believe this is Lukashevka (Russian) or
Lukashivka (Ukrainian), which was sometimes called Lukashifke in
Yiddish. In the 1900s, it was in Lipovets district of Kiev province,
and in the 1930s, it was in Vinnitsa district. Some of the surrounding
towns are Lipovets, Tetiev, Stavishche, Zhashkiv, and Monastyryche.

This is most probably place known in modern Ukrainian as Lukashivka (Polish:
Lukaszowka) at 4910 2945. In 1897 this shtetl in Kiev Guberniya had 1,724
Jewish residents.
JGFF database lists currently 44 researchers for this place.

Such large Jewish population numbers for a small shtetl is related to the
conomical activities (alcohol distillery) of the place. Local distillery had
modern Pistorius distillation apparatus and steam boiler installed. This
resulted for example in 1881 'conversion' of 900,000 lbs of grain to 34,000
gallons of the pure alcohol.

An 1870 document identified Lokshifke as the home. Try Lokhvitsa Ukraine,
which "Where Once We Walked" places at 50.22/33.16, 101 km S of Konotop. This
would be in the area of Poltava and Priluki.
