The Jewish Genealogy Society of Long Island's next meeting will be held on
Sunday, January 22.
Time: 2:00 PM
Place: Mid Island Y JCC 45 Manetto Hill Road Plainview, New York www.miyjcc.org
Topic: "Yikhes: Researching Your Roots in NY Public Library's Jewish Division"
Guest Speaker: Amanda Seigel. Amanda is a librarian at the Dorot Jewish Division of
the New York Public Library. She will describe its holdings - one of the largest
Judaica collections in the world. She will highlight some of the diverse and even
surprising sources there for genealogical research.
Ms. Seigel's research specialties include Yiddish language and culture and American
Jewish history. She is the co-author of Jews in America: From New Amsterdam to the
Yiddish Stage. She has performed on the Yiddish stage in the U.S. and
internationally.
Admission is free and all are welcome. Our "Mavens" will be available at
1:00 PM to take your genealogy questions.
