After obtaining all possible family documents, search by distance and
direction (or by radius within 30 miles) from a known location.

JewishGen Town Finder is the JewishGen Communities Database
- Contains over 6,000 Jewish communities in Europe, North Africa and
the Middle East.
- All known alternate names in various languages.
- Search by modern, inter-war or pre-WWI country, distance/direction
in miles/kilometers from capital city, latitude/longitude or selected
city.
- Default search method is "phonetically like." Other search methods
are: "sounds like" "starts with" "contains" "is exactly" "fuzzy match"
"fuzzier match" "fuzziest match."
- Does not contain all places where Jews have lived. Smaller places
are in JewishGen Gazetteer.

MODERATOR NOTE: Bette Stoop Mas is expanding here on a response she gave
a couple of weeks ago to a ViewMate post reading: "I'm trying to determine
the correct town name, and therefore its location, of: Malke PELLER,
mother of both Wigder and Lea. JRI-Poland extraction says Pohorlowka, but
I cannot locate it in the town finder or communities database. The
father's (Chune REINSTEIN) town is Kudrynce." This is a more generally
applicable, and more comprehensive, summary of the options available on
the JewishGen website.
