The Yizkor book excerpt for this week is from the shtetl of tepan, which had
been part of Poland and is now in northwest Ukraine, just south of the border
of Belarus. It is an account by Yonah Rassis, who had been imprisoned
in a forced labor camp in Kostopol shortly before the annihilation of the
community in 1942, and who, along with hundreds of others, decided to escape.
