Greetings, everyone. Further to my last posting about the Shapiro research
my certainty that the family identified by the archives is my Shapiro family
has now fallen substantially. The names and namesakes and dates of death and
birth and mention just don't add up.

To make matters worse, more than one source has indicated to me that
metric/vital records from the eastern region of Belarus today bordering on
Russia and the bordering Russian areas simply no longer exist in Minsk or
anywhere else, and were "destroyed" during World War II.

Does anyone far more expert on events during World War II than I know why
that region should have faced that kind of documentary destruction as
compared to archival resources in Poland and even throughout Ukraine??

It has essentially made it next to impossible to confirm or clarify family
history beyond the odd census record for ancestry in that part of the Old
Country.

Thanks,
David Goldman
