The next meeting of the Jewish Genealogy Society of Long Island will be on
Sunday, March 25.

Time: 2:00 PM
Place: Mid-Island Y JCC 45 Manetto HIll Road Plainview, New York
www.miyjcc.org

Topic: "Galician Globetrotters, Barber Surgeons and Persistent Women"

Guest Speaker: Dr. Andrew Zalewski

From the 16th century, Galician Jews ventured to Italy to receive university
medical educations. After university admissions were opened to Jews in the
Habsburg realm, they attended schools in Lemberg (Lwow), Krakow, Vienna and
Pest.

This talk will challenge stereotypes, probe internal debates in the Jewish
Community and reveal cultural trailblazers and rebels. It will also demonstrate
the value to genealogists of academic records.

Dr. Zalewski is a member of the board of Gesher Galicia and edits its journal,
"The Galitzianer." He is the author of two books - "Galician Trails: The Story
of One Family" and "Galician Portraits: In Search of Jewish Roots."

Admission is free and all are welcome.

Our "Mavens" will be available to take your genealogy questions at 1:30 PM.

Jackie Wasserstein
