The Yizkor-Books-In-Print Project of JewishGen is proud to announce the
publication of its 61th title, "God's Sabbatical Years - The Story of
Alan Weiler"

Written by Peter Harris

Hard Cover, 11" by 8.5", 234 pages
List Price: $45.95 Available on Amazon for around $35

Back in the 1970s two strangers met in a city-centre pub in the North of
England. Both Jewish, one was a journalist at the Manchester Evening News
and the other a Shoah survivor. The stories told by the survivor Alan
Weiler so intrigued journalist Peter Harris that Peter offered to ghost-
write Alan's memoir. Some 40 years later Harris came across the last
remaining of three typed manuscripts whilst reorganising his office and
decided to donate it to the Wiener Jewish Library in London where the
archivist suggested that it should be published to reach a wider audience.
Initially, Harris was told by several publishers that it would cost
hundreds of pounds to retype the manuscript into a digital format so he
turned to JewishGen Yizkor Books Project which took the project on board.
With the help of 30 volunteers, the book was scanned and retyped into
electronic files that could be edited and made ready for print. Alan
Weiler's poignant memoir, "God's Sabbatical Years", has now been published
by the Yizkor-Books-In-Print Project and Harris has been able to keep the
promise he made more than 40 years to tell Alan Weiler's story to the
world. Alan Weiler, who died in 1997, always insisted that it should be
called "God's Sabbatical Years", contending that "if there is a God in
Heaven, he must have been on holiday" during those long years of suffering.

The magnificent cover painting was donated by Shoah survivor,
internationally-renowned artist Samuel Bak who was a schoolboy in the Vilna
Ghetto at the same time at Alan Weiler.

This could be a perfect gift for parents, grand-parents for the upcoming
holidays.
