Scotlands People is a partnership between the National Records of
Scotland and Court of the Lord Lyon, enabled by DC Thompson Family
History which also owns Findmypast.

They are offering free 20 credits (purchase of records is by credits)
through 27 August. You need to register with your name, email address.
To order your free credits go to http://scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ and
click on "purchase more Scotlands People credits" in the upper right-
hand corner. Enter Summer 16 in the Voucher Code box and proceed to
payment. You are only ordering 20 free credits which will be available
for 8,761 hours (i.e. 1 year). Some records are free to search and to
view the record costs "credits" while some record collection charge
credits to search. It is best to look at "about our records" under
Charges for determining the charge process.

If you have not previously visited the Scotlands People website, you are
encouraged to visit the help and resources area for guidance on
searching and the FAQs about the record types and payment charges.

Thank you to Gail Dever from Genealogy a la carte for informing us
about the 20 free credits.

There are free records and a free surname search does not cost any
credits.

The free records include the military service appeals tribunal,
soldiers' wills, wills and testimonials and coats of arms. See the
left hand side of the screen on the page where you register or login.

Note that Scotlands People website will be unavailable Wednesday, 7
September at 23:59 BT and service will be resumed on Monday 23 September
for essential work to the website.

Jews have been known to be in Scotland since the 17th century and
probably earlier. For more information on the Jews of Scotland see:

Thank you to David Goldberg for sharing this.

I have no affiliation with either DC Thompson Family History or
Scotlands People and am posting this solely for the information of
the reader.
