I am trying to find more information about Maccabees Lodge. My great
grandmother Smilanski-Robinski who lived in Jersey City and Bayonne,
NJ belonged to Maccabees Lodge (mentioned in obituary) and all my
research indicates that this was a Jewish organization, yet my family
(at least after that point) was Catholic. My DNA does show European
Jewish ancestry, so I am trying to peruse this line of ancestry.

I look forward to any information on the Maccabees Lodge in Hudson
county between 1890-1940.

Thanks,
Steve Koch

You might want to try the Jersey Room at the Jersey City Public Library. They
have a good collection of local resources and they also have (had) a card file
which was a partial index of the local newspapers.

I have not been there myself in years so I am not sure of the exact current
resources nor if they will do anything for you remotely or if you have to go
there. But it is well worth contacting them.
